The Store Scout | ACNE STUDIOS Madison Avenue Flagship
BY MARISSA TORSIELLO
Acne Studios has taken a different design aspect employing gold as its signature tone for their new flagship store in New York City on Madison Avenue. The 230-square meter space is Acne Studios’ largest opening yet, built by British designer and longtime collaborator Max Lamb, complete with unique gold features and details that are exclusive to the space. With juxtaposing materials like metal interior walls that have been electrostatically gilded, contrasted by black asphalt floors, visitors will see the powerful detailing of the store. Fully wrapped in glass to allow interior visibility, the space is designed to act as a gallery as well as a clothing store.
For me, it was important to elevate the store design into something spectacular since the location demands it in a way. And, therefore, I went for gold. Classic, but still in the universe of Acne Studios, it’s like a local store on a global stage.
Lamb has designed bronze furniture around his synthetic concept for the store, including a desk, benches, stools, and clothing racks. He also created custom rugs made with yarns of different weights that were hand-dyed in Lamb’s studio in London, giving an organic touch to the gold store.
With its golden, futuristic visuals, the new flagship is as mesmerizing as the clothing displayed. A store that merges minimalism and eccentricity really gives off a warmer aesthetic with the golden tones, delivering a welcoming feel to visitors.
