Store Scout, Alumnae Tribeca

BY BRENNA O’DONNELL

New York luxury footwear brand Alumnae has opened its first boutique at 60 Hudson Street in Tribeca, bringing their modernly subdued sophistication back to center-stage Manhattan. Founded by Kari Sigerson and Eliza Axelson-Chidsey, Alumnae is the perfect combination of the understated fashion statement, enduring Italian craft, and New York versatility.

The Alumnae building itself is known as the Western Union Building, designed by Ralph Thomas Walker in the late 1920s, early 1930s and noted for it’s Art Deco features. Venturing to the interior, Alumnae worked with New York-based architecture vonDalwig to create the space, which is full of Paonazzo Italian marble, vintage Moroccan rugs, and custom David Weeks Akimbo light fixtures. Alumnae’s understated aesthetic shines throughout the space, with minimalist all white displays that permit your imagination to create the perfect context for your own pair of Alumnae shoes.
