The Store Scout | AQUAZZURA Madison Avenue Flagship
BY KENNETH RICHARD
Italian luxury footwear brand Aquazzura has taken a step across the pond to open their first US flagship store on NYC’s Madison Avenue.
The 2,221 square foot boutique with 17 feet of street frontage (a luxury by NYC standards), was a combination of Creative Director Edgardo Osorio’s vision along with New York interior designer Ryan Korban.
My favorite part of the process was working with Edgardo when designing the store. I love the relationship between designer and interior designer and he pushed me to go in another direction that may have been a departure from what I normally do. Aquazzura, in particular has so much excitement and so much sexiness and modernity to it. To create a space for a brand with all these characteristics was an incredible experience.
That experience resulted in the use of Aquazzura’s signature black and white stripes for arches, which are inspired by the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella in Florence, the site of the brand’s headquarters. The interior merges classic Florentine elements, such as pink marble and suede, with a contemporary Manhattan aesthetic.
I love that this space has a unique soul from my other stores. I wanted it to feel like Madison Avenue’s very own ‘Church of Shoes’.
Looks like a number of New Yorkers’ prayers have been answered.
