Harlem hip-hop Trap Lord A$AP Ferg has teamed up with Danish menswear designer, Astrid Andersen, to create their first artistic fashion film together in ‘Water.’
Hip-hop artists are no strangers to the fashion scene, for their effortless street flow always seems to complement a certain urban swagger, as previously demonstrated many hip-hop artists, from the Wu-Tang Clan to A$AP Rocky, and now most recently, A$AP Ferg.
A$AP Ferg and Astrid Andersen’s relationship began thanks to mutual friends, further leading them to work together on a Topman campaign. Their most recent creative project works alongside director Ryan Andrews and presented by Redbull Catwalk Studio. ‘Water’ releases an ultra nostalgic 90’s aura with kung-fu oriental flair. The fashion film takes place in a mystical fog-ridden forest in which Ferg battles hype man Marty Baller, both sporting the latest Anderson designs. Ferg will additionally be producing a soundtrack for Astrid Andersen’s Spring/Summer 2016 runway show in London.
With that being said, we at the Impression feel as though the film did not quite live up to its potential. With a huge financial sponsor such as Redbull, a talent within the rap world such as A$AP Ferg and an even more well renowned designer such as Astrid Anderson, this fashion film could have been so much more. The film had interesting ideas yet did not display or output them in a way we found intriguing or well rounded. Although the film appeared to have a decent backing behind it, it still seemed a tad juvenile.
