Store Scout, bassike Paddington Flagship
BY STEPHANIE PETTWAY
Since opening in 2009, high-end sustainability brand, bassike has refurbished its two-floor Paddington store in New South Wales.
Showing that they have grown from being the original cotton jersey collection, the store includes women’s and men’s ready-to-wear, Japan made denim, accessories, fine jewelry, and mini collections from the brand.
Teaming with Akin Creative for the design of the store, founders by Deborah Sams, and Mary Lou Ryan uplift the space through contemporary furnishings and premium design details. The ground floor features a mixture of materials, from hand selected silver travertine worked across bench tops, to soft gray Italian leather covered plinths, and flax linen fitting rooms that are carpeted with sisal and finished with stools. In the middle of the store is a staircase that leads to a lower level that is complemented with tonal woven rugs and Hans Wegner chairs. This lower level leads out to a quiet rear courtyard with a teddy-bear magnolia tree and a circular steel planter that gives a relaxing environment for shoppers.
As part of the refurbishment, bassike collaborated with Australian Film talent, Paris Thompson to document the signature details of the brands certified organic cotton jersey collection, capturing twisted seams, raw hems, contrast chain stitching, and the exclusive knit & dry handle of the cotton jersey styles. The film, entitles “moving image project 1” is available to view online at bassike artikle.
