Calvin Klein 205W39NYC Spring 2018 Ad Campaign
BY KENNETH RICHARD
With a macabre blend of ‘Cabin in the Woods’ meets ‘Southern American Gothic,’ Raf Simons and the crew at agency Lloyd & Co have delivered a cinematically and visually arresting Calvin Klein 205W39NYC Spring 2018 ad campaign that leaves The Impression longing for a follow-up video.
In the multi-layered story a group of 20 cast members lensed by Willy Vanderperre gather at an abandoned barn, the same barn from the #MyCalvins campaign. A nod to horror films is prevalent throughout as the players are cinematically lensed from the back with upward angles that practically write their own tormenting soundtrack. To add to unearthly undertones, many carry imaginative nefarious props in silver and black buckets from artist Sterling Ruby, who also hung axes and other assorted items for the set of the Calvin Klein 205W39NYC Spring 2018 runway show.
The threading of the campaign’s location across all of Calvin Klein spring communication is a wise move from all parties involved, Calvin Klein Chief Creative Officer Raf Simons, Calvin Klein Creative Director Pieter Mulier, and Lloyd & Co Creative Director Doug Lloyd. It is no easy feat to maneuver a house with so many bases and such a global reach. But like a great horror film, the elements spread everywhere and stay with us long after the screening, lingering with energy.
