The Store Scout, Chrome Hearts West Village
BY BRENNA O’DONNELL
In the spirit of Chrome Hearts’ root concept of “making yourself at home,” the life-inspired luxury brand returned to the home of its first store in New York City to open another flagship on the other side of Manhattan, adding to their portfolio of 28 international stores. The new West Village store on Washington Street is a low key, unmarked, 16,000 square foot cave full of leather furniture, silver accessories, and even a thirteen-foot spiked dinosaur.
We wanted to actualize & extend our world and share the ‘at home’ feeling we’ve cultivated over decades.
Chrome Hearts was conceived in 1988 by Richard Stark and Laurie Lynn in Los Angeles, and in 1996 their first stand-alone store was opened on the Upper East Side of New York City. Twenty-one years later their second NYC location is now open selling their signature accessories and eyewear, along with their custom furniture made with ebony wood, metals, and leather. This year model Bella Hadid collaborated with Chrome Hearts on a capsule collection that will also be sold at the new store.
Although the space is intended to be an ever-changing experiment, right now the store includes a fourteen-seat dining table, many bean bag chairs, a 150 pound chainmaille American flag engraved with the Pledge of Allegiance, and even a few classic decorative pieces that used to sit in the first Chrome Hearts store. The second level of the store acts as a showroom for visitors to experience the array of lifestyles behind the Chrome Hearts brand including a sports corner, custom garage aspects, Baccarat chandeliers, and a Chrome Hearts themed Chef’s Kitchen.
