CRAIG GREEN serves a rocket on a capsule collection with BJÖRN BORG
BY KENNETH RICHARD
British avant-purist designer, Craig Green, has played to sportswear influences since exploding on the scene a few years ago. Today the design has dived into a full blown sportswear collection via a capsule in partnership with tennis icon Björn Borg’s label.
The capsule is now available through fifteen exclusive retailers, including the likes of Opening Ceremony, Wild Style LA and FourtwoFour. Green, known for his Asian inspired looks, imprints his cerebral spin on sportswear punking everything from silhouettes to the logo.
The idea is to have a multifunctional garment for both men and women that is not really gender-specific. Functional components become a distinct design feature, and a bold logo is replaced by a single circle – a development of the whole motif I often explore.
The Craig Green x Björn Borg capsule collection consist of eighteen sportswear pieces, of which five are performance sport. The monochrome collection, entirely in black and cream white, is sold exclusively at selected retailers such as Opening Ceremony in New York, Wild Style LA, Storm in Copenhagen, Yme Studios in Oslo, Temporary with prices ranging between €30-450.
Green won the British Fashion Award for Emerging Menswear Designer in 2014, is one of The Impression’s designers to keep an eye on as we believe his future is brighter than his color choices and deserves consideration to take on a major design house at some point in the future. But until then we’ll have to enjoy the sport of fashion in another way, through his new sportswear.
