For Fall 2016 designers returned to the Renaissance with an embrace of opulence. Embroidery at Balmain, leg-of-mutton sleeves at Y-Project, stuffed shoulders at Marc Jacobs, ruffs at Veronique Branquinho, and jewels at Marchesa all signified designers desire to redefine the new power dressing. Surface ornamentation prevalent this season with contrasting fabrics, slashes, embroidery, and applied trims. While Balmain bordered on Baroque, the overall feeling was a return to the dramatic and that more is just more.

Designer house of Vetements, Alexander McQueen, Louis Vuitton, Sophie Theallet, Gucci, Giambattista Valli, Lanvin, Naeem Khan, and Rodarte all touched upon this trend for Fall 2016.
