GIOVANNI BIANCO Gathers the Gang for Givenchy’s Spring 2016 Message of Love Campaign
BY KENNETH RICHARD
Designer Riccardo Tisci, who chose to show his Spring 2016 collection in New York City, returned to The Big Apple for his spring campaign, enlisting Creative Director Giovanni Bianco of GB65 along the way. The campaign is a mash-up of group shots, low camera angles and an ode to love.
Twenty-seven models invaded sets in lower Manhattan and Brooklyn for the Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott lensed campaign, with styling by none other than fashion’s own Carine Roitfeld. The power-posed group shots are offset by a sonnet of love by singer Anohni (Antony Hegarty) and echo Tisci’s theme of both his show and after party.
I am a child on the river, and love waits downstream: A waterfall to steal my breath, and change my mind.
The seasonal video expands upon the theme, offering antidotal love quotes in both French and English whilst the cast navigates an industrial setting. The overall feeling is fresh and will likely find love’s embrace in younger millennials, who are being acclimated to the house.
Giovanni Bianco and his GB65 team have been on a roll of late, leveraging groups and New York City, as in last season’s Miu Miu campaign. The impact of the group will be reflected in the media buy as campaign will run only as spreads.
The Impression is inspired by Tisci’s message of love and the house of Givenchy flexing its muscle in both the power of poses and strength in numbers. If they keep this up, sales as well as love will await them downstream.
