Store Scout, Gucci Miami Design District
BY OBI ANYANWU
Gucci has opened a new store in Miami’s Design District, marking as the culmination of the fashion house’s affair with the art world.
Gucci has made it a point to champion artists of different mediums. The Kering-owned atelier launched this year collaborations with artists Coco Capitán, Unskilled Worker, and Angelina Hicks, showcased the work of digital artists through its #TFWGucci project, tapped tailor Dapper Dan to be the face of its men’s tailoring advertising campaign and will launch a collaboration with the Harlemite in Spring 2018, and recently launched its Gucci Giving campaign featuring the work of Spanish artist Ignasi Monreal.
With the opening of the new Miami Design District store just days before Art Basel Miami, Gucci will have a front row seat to the week’s festivities and to the emerging and established talent that could use a cosign.
The 4,700-square-foot boutique carries the complete men’s and women’s Fall 2017 ready-to-wear collection, handbags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, the Cruise 2018 collection and the Gucci Décor collection, as well as exclusive pieces made in collaboration with Coco Capitán.
Creative Director Alessandro Michele designed the new two-floor boutique that features European white oak floors in a herringbone design, a one-of-a-kind red lacquered wood staircase that serves as a focal point of the space, and pink fabrics walls and an artisanal marble mosaic floor in a private room, all of which are complimented by velvet armchairs and vintage rugs.
In addition, the boutique’s façade features marble and pale green industrial metal construction and a customized mural with a special illustration by Capitán, which is an extension of the artist’s murals on the Gucci Art Walls in New York City and Milan.
