JIMMY CHOO celebrates 20 years with both a capsule collection and a MEMENTO TRUNK

Twenty years in our industry is certainly something to celebrate and design house Jimmy Choo has marked the occasion with both a capsule collection entitled MEMENTO and a little something special to house it in, a limited edition accessories trunk.

While capsule collections are public relations du jour these days, a trunk . . . is something else entirely. Designers like Jimmy Choo’s Creative Director Sandra Choi are very often in the collectables business, putting out collections that fans covet, collect and dare we say, show off. And while a series of shoe boxes in a cubby are perfectly fine to display ones collection, having a special something to house it in, designed by that same designer, is a crown jewel for a true collector. Which is exactly what a twenty anniversary collection should also celebrate, the hunger of their fans.

The hand-made trunk is crafted from pale taupe galuchat embossed leather and incorporates individual drawers, each lined in suede and finished with a brass card-holder to accommodate a design sketch from the collection. The lid of the trunk opens to reveal an inlaid mirror and a number of smaller accessories drawers. The trunk, complete with all 20 designs from the MEMENTO collection, will be available from April 2016 via a limited selection of Jimmy Choo flagship stores, as well as by special order.

Kudos to the Jimmy Choo team for thinking it through, with the addition of a trunk, and one never knows where something like this can lead. After all, with the multiple celebrities that the brand dresses, one never knows if they may need another luxury set of luggage to sit adjacent to their monogrammed trunks.
