Miu Miu Tells the Story of Welcoming Friendship in Room 303 Fashion Film
BY SAWYER GAINES
In continuation of their pre-fall 2017 campaign Miu Miu released a short film entitled Room 303 celebrating the private world of a London hotel room. The film stars Jaime King, Samantha Archibald, Iesha Hodges, and Lily Nova as a group of girls having fun in a hotel room preparing for a night out and looking amazing while doing so. The film plays as an homage to the wonderful camaraderie and playful joy of female friendship with a welcoming and accessible vibe that creates the sense that you can go out with your girlfriends and have a night like this.
The film has a distinctly retro aesthetic featuring the grainy textures of an old VHS tape shot on a hand-held camcorder. This lo-fi atmosphere further adds to the sense of accessibility given off by the film as it creates the feeling that you could shoot this film. The direction and photography by Alasdair McLellan is stellar and perfectly fits the DIY feel of the film. Each individual shot looks like it could be captured on an old polaroid camera as though each moment is its own mini story of the events of the night.
The film does a masterful job of highlighting the beautiful Miu Miu looks while also being more than just a simple showcase of outfits. It is it’s own special event with each shot capturing an important moment of the evolving night to create a lovely air of human connection and welcoming friendship. Just like the best nights out with friends every moment and image has meaning and purpose in coming together to create the perfect night.
