Prada Men’s features Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne in their mystical Fall 2016 campaign

Prada is always one to feature on-the-rise celebrities in their ad campaigns. Continuing this trend, Prada opted to feature 34-year-old rising star Eddie Redmayne, an academy award winner, for their latest menswear fall 2016 campaign.

The stunning campaign, shot by photographer Craig McDean, features Redmayne as he seems to undergo an adventure. The video starts off featuring Redmayne reading from a small vintage journal. Seconds later, Redmayne is shown walking through a hidden doorway which opens up to a magical room of different colorful backdrops. Once he enters the room, Redmayne, sporting Prada sunglasses, pulls out a picture and compares it to the beautiful scenery around him, which turns out to be an exact match. The rest of the campaign features close-up views of Redmayne’s eyes, beautiful backgrounds reminiscent of watercolor paintings, and more shots of Redmayne’s leather journal.

Prada took inspiration from Redmayne’s new movie, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, coming out this November, to create their whimsical fall campaign. In the movie, based on the book by J.K. Rowling, Redmayne plays wizard Newt Scamander, who has a briefcase full of magical creatures, some of which end up escaping. The ad campaign reflects this plot of searching for creatures, as it features Redmayne seeming to be searching for something as he enters different landscapes and rooms and reads from his small journal.

Prada created a remarkable campaign straight out of the Harry Potter wizarding world. The campaign separates us temporarily from reality and emerges us into a mystical world of imagination and wonder, allowing us to leave behind the stresses of daily life and take a moment to think about the unusual and the extraordinary.  Let’s just say, J.K. Rowling would certainly be proud.
