Rhode Island School of Design Graduate Students present in New York City

Thanks to the first annual RISD Backstudio, the Rhode Island School of Design’s graduating class were recently given the opportunity to travel to New York City to present their ideas to some of the biggest names in fashion. Among these names include Tommy Hilfiger, who incidentally is the father of one of the eighteen design graduates.
Our students complement design with a Fine Arts perspective. We are committed to what we call “critical making” – working with real materials in real scale, combining the intelligence of the hands with conceptual development.
An essential factor for any developing designer entering the fashion industry is being able to differentiate themselves, but ensuring creativity wasn’t a problem for the students of RISD. Everyone involved had totally unique ideas, each student being able to create something different, bringing their own individual style into their collections. Now their next step? Taking what they’ve learned throughout their career so far and applying it to the real world. Here is a taste of each of the soon to be ex-students’ work and The Impression extends our congratulations to the graduates.
