The Store Scout, Samuji House Helsinki, Finland
BY MCKENZIE TAVELLA
Samuji now has a place it can call home. Previously online only, Samuji House is the new brick-and-mortar store location in the center of Helsinki’s shopping district. The brand’s designer, Samu-Jussi Koski, who grew up in a small Finnish village, wanted to model the store after a true living space. The store is a combination of elements of a gallery, boutique, and home.
The two-story boutique is nestled in a courtyard building on the lively shopping center, which allows customers to have a more personal shopping experience. Samuji House truly brings a sense of simple functionality that embraces the values of everyday life. Both the interior space and the items it carries express an organic expression. The home décor and furniture are often locally crafted, or from Europe and Japan, made out of quality materials.
The shop contains an array of clothing, accessories, art work, printed fabrics, and homeware items that express the Samuji lifestyle and values. The womenswear collection available for purchase, is a combination of two lines, Samuji Classic and Samuji Seasonal. Samuji Classic carries ageless designs for both clothing clothing and accessories, while Samuji Seasonal has a more bohemian and vibrant style to it. Most of the items in the store are designed and produced by Samuji, but there are also featured products from selected collaborators, Artek and Base Range.
