Saturdays NYC Opens Osaka Flagship
By Kenneth Richard | The Impressionist
Surf’s up in Osaka as Saturdays NYC has launched their sixth international store in the Chuo-Ku region of the Japanese city.
The 3,500-square foot store spans two floors to offer the full collection, surfboards, books, shoes, accessories, as well as a new brand extension, a cafe.
We have served coffee since first opening Saturdays on Crosby Street in New York. We had a backyard where people could hang out, relax and enjoy the experience of being at Saturdays. We’ve always considered this at all of our locations, but wanted to develop the concept further into more beverage and food options for Osaka.
The house didn’t go it alone on their first foray into food and teamed up with renowned chef Makoto Asamoto of Unité, Inc. The original menu brings a little of the U.S. to Osaka’s financial and shopping district, offering baked goods, sandwiches, organic juices, tea, beer and coffee. A pretty standard surfer’s diet, well, at least a long-boarders diet.
The store’s clean lines and pivoting front doors bring an air of California Modernism to the area and offer an inviting entrance. With zen-like flow and a strong merchandising assortment, we anticipate the store will ride a nice wave.
