The Impression’s Look at the Parsons School of Design 2015 Design Winners

Fashion is the most innovative of fields and one that not only welcomes fresh perspectives but relies on it. To gain insight from the industries next generation of designers The Impression checked in with this years award winners from Parsons School of Design to see what was on their minds. For the fourth in this week’s series, we spoke with Steffi Tsz Wing Lau, who was awarded Parsons Accessories Designer of the Year and Jennifer Lia Kim, Parsons Childrenswear Designer of the Year.

What inspired you to go into fashion?
My passion and obsession for shoes.

What three fashion houses do you admire?
Nicholas Kirkwood
Celine
Pierre Hardy

What inspired your senior collection?
It is inspired by artist Justin Plakas‘ surreal artworks ‘A Better Tomorrow.’

What mark do you hope to leave in the industry?

There are a lot of things that drove me to pursue fashion, but when I came to Parsons, I found myself meeting classmates that wanted to make a change in the world through design. I think this was the most inspiring

What inspired your senior collection?
A post-apocalyptic zombie survival video game set 500 years in the future.

What mark do you hope to leave in the industry?
I hope I can contribute to the industry taking steps to be more socially responsible.
