The Kooples “The Break-Up” Fashion Film
BY STEPHANIE PETTWAY
In typical post break up fashion, Emily Ratajkowski, captured on an old Kodak 35mm film camera, is seen tossing her ex’s clothes of the window, destroying his records and burning his guitar to the beat of “Better Things” by Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings in the new The Kooples’ fashion film, “The Break-Up.” However, like some women, she has one keepsake from the unsalvageable relationship, her self-titled mini handbag from the new collection.
The collection is a collaboration with Ratajkowski, called the “Iconic Emily” bag. It features a guitar strap inspired shoulder strap which is a subtle nod to the burnt guitar in the film. The bag captures elegance and femininity while being practical for everyday use.
The film ends with the model leaving the trashed apartment and as she walks away viewers can see the words “I’m Keeping The Bag,” on the wall, which echoes the message engraved on the inside of the bag saying “Just Keep My Bag.” This film becomes a strong symbol for women, and captures the essence of freedom, moving on, and beginning a new love story.
