VERA WANG SHARES AN ODE TO THE CITY OF LIGHT WITH A VIDEO THAT EXPLORES THE BEAUTY OF PARIS AND THE GRACE OF HER FALL 2017 COLLECTION
Vera Wang, who recently received the medal of Chevalier of the Legion of Honor in Paris, credits the City of Light for molding and shaping her as a ballet dancer and figure skater and as a designer. The New York-native shared an ode to Paris to coincide with her Fall 2017 collection that is also inspired by the city.
“I have a story, my very own,” said Wang at the video’s opening. The designer sits in a dimly lit room to open the video. What follows are models exploring vast halls, taking in classic and opulent Parisian interiors, and simultaneously showcasing the Fall collection’s breathtaking movement. The designer illustrates two sides of Paris that she discovered over time—a mysterious, mesmerizing and seductive side and a youthful, sophisticated, and brave side.
Paris heavily influences the CFDA Award winner, but she touts ballet dancing for teaching her “precision and control” and figure skating for freeing her, which both later inspired and informed her own vision of women. What was seen could not be unseen, nor forgotten.
“How does one define a lifelong love affair? Paris has always been my special love. My sanctuary, my escape.” Wang freely shares her deep adoration and infatuation with Paris, and rightfully so. She rationalizes her feelings with the old adage, “you never forget your first love.”
