Confirmed News of Alexander Wang Leaving Balenciaga

After weeks of rumors, news has officially surfaced of Alexander Wang’s departure from the French luxury fashion house, Balenciaga. Speculation of Wang’s leave surfaced earlier this month, when Balenciaga’s parent company, Kering, issued a statement saying, “There are discussions between the designer and Balenciaga regarding the renewal of the contract.”
Wang has been with Balenciaga since 2012, boosting business in the double digits and enhancing the brand name significantly. Wang had replaced Nicholas Ghesquiere, who had been Creative Director at Balenciaga for 12 years before heading to Louis Vuitton. Wang’s final collection for Balenciaga will appear in Spring 2016 Paris Fashion Week.
There has been no word as to why Wang’s contract has not been renewed or who will replace Wang, although it is thought that a lesser-known designer will succeed him, perhaps following in the path of Gucci’s freshly unknown Creative Director, Alessandro Michele.
