WOOLMARK COMPANY annouces USA Nominees for Woolmark International Prize

The Woolmark Company has announced the USA nominees for the 2016-2017 International Woolmark Prize. Over 75 designers from 62 countries have been chosen to compete for the coveted prize this year. The prestigious award, established in 1953, will award 12 winning finalists from 6 regional events (Hong Kong, Sydney, Milan, New York, and Mumbai) AU$50,000 each as well as an invitation to the global finals. The overall winners at the global finals, one in menswear and one in womenswear, will receive another AU$100,000, mentoring, and the opportunity for their line to be carried by top retailers including Harvey Nichols, Saks Fifth Avenue, David Jones, and Boutique 1.
The USA nominees include Womenswear: Gabriella Hearst, Hellessy, Monse, Nellie Partow, and Sally LaPointe and Menswear: Abasi Rosborough, Matiere, Pyer Moss, Rochambeau, and SECOND/LAYER. These designers will present one look in merino wool as well as a six-piece capsule collection to industry expert judges. They join an impressive and established group of designers worldwide who have been involved with the Woolmark Prize, most notably Karl Lagerfeld and Yves Saint Laurent who were awarded the prize in Paris in 1954.
