Designer Aldo Maria Camillo served as a designer at top companies and fashion houses such as Ermenegildo Zegna as Senior Men’s Director, Valentino in 2003 and later in 2009 with Pierpaolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri, Maison Cerruti in 2012, where he was creative director and a member of the board of directors, and finally at Berluti as a creative consultant for Haider Ackermann. Born in Rome in 1975, Camillo studied foreign language literature at “LUMSA” University, graduated with a degree in Costume and Fashion and received his Master’s degree for marketing at FIT.
The first collection of ALDOMARIACAMILLO, named ‘Radici’ draws inspiration from vintage military uniforms and the 1990s, as well as “stolen” sartorial jackets from Camillo’s father’s wardrobe that made the designer “feel like the artists of the bands I was listening to,” and the works of Martin Margiela and Helmut Lang.
ALDOMARIACAMILLO represents the beginning of a new story, a showcase where I can both express my ideal of fashion and speak of myself; I believe clothing is a tool for communicating who we are without saying a word, because it lives and grows together with us. With my brand, I would like to create a collection that evolves and completes itself over time, in which garments possess the quality needed to last as long as possible.
“Having the possibility to present this project in a premiere showing at Pitti Uomo is an honor and a dream come true,” concludes Aldo Maria Camillo.
Launching a namesake label at Pitti Uomo is a dream come true for the Paris-based designer, and also the culmination of all of his work for Italian designers, labels and companies.
Camillo joins Belgian designer Glenn Martens, creative director of Y/Project, at Pitti Uomo. The international trade fair this month named 2017 Andam Grand Prize Award Winnger Y/Project as Menswear Guest Designer for Pitti Uomo 95.
