Review of Berluti x Brian Rochefort Spring 2021 Ad Campaign by Creative Directors Kris Van Assche and Mathias Augustyniak and Michael Amzalag of M/M (Paris) & Photographer Julien Martinez Leclerc with models Leon Dam, Giovanna Martial, and Kiki Willems
Berluti unveils a new campaign which is a striking visual exploration of space and color. The Spring 2021 campaign features creative direction from duo Mathias Augustyniak and Michael Amzalag of agency M/M (Paris).
Berluti creative director Kris Van Assche once again works with photographer Julien Martinez Leclerc, who has lensed the house’s last few campaigns. While Leclerc employs the same close-up, warped, and larger-than-life approach to capturing his subjects, the context in which they appear has completely changed.
Set designer Giovanna Martial worked with M/M (Paris) to create an immersive, psychedelic space for the collection to inhabit. They blow up the colorful, organically-inspired prints of the collection and splash them across geometric walls which brand off at strange angles. The layers of color and pattern create a kaleidoscopic sense of visual rhythm, and we feel as if we have glimpsed a fantastical world beyond the reaches of the imagination.
The stars of the campaign, in turn, become diplomatic messengers from this other realm, sent to help us bask in the glory of Berluti. It is a sign of artistic excellence that a campaign can have such a strong effect through nearly pure abstractions of color and form, and we are happy to see that Berluti is continuing to expand its creative horizons in unexpected and beautiful ways.
