COACH Time is of the Essence for Latest Book by Stuart Vevers & Fabien Baron


With both originality and prestige, Coach, the American house of leather, celebrates its 75th Anniversary with 336 page book as an ode to its New York heritage in COACH: A STORY OF NEW YORK COOL.

The Rizzoli published book, with a foreword by Debbie Harry, is an eclectic mix of vintage sketches, editorials, new and archival photograph written by Coach Creative Director Stuart Vevers and author Joel Dinerstein, whose previous works include books on “American cool,” race, film noir and popular music. Coach’s inspirational icons of cool, Robert Redford, Ali MacGraw, Madonna, Prince, Chloë Grace Moretz and Zoë Kravitz are highlighted across the pages in scrapbook style layout designed by the renowned art director Fabien Baron, pulling inspiration from the cool and pulsating energy of New York City in the 1960’s.

Providing a glimpse into the essence of this New York success from it’s inception to the transformation of the iconic brand in the last 75 years; the book offers a plethora of images as well as the history behind the brand. Spanning from its 1941 beginnings with six artisans working in a small Soho workshop in New York City to the revered fashion brand it is today. The brand has progressed from offering men’s leather goods, key cases and leather slippers, to the decision of early company owners Miles and Lillian Cahn to onboard legendary sportswear designer Bonnie Cashin, to design women’s handbags and accessories.

The combination of Baron and Vevers have partnered on some of the best ad campaigns of the past decade for the house if not for the industry at large. The Impression believes this book is an excellent enabler for the creative duo to dive deeper into the rich heritage of New York’s cool anti-establishment, one the brand has the right to own having developed America’s first luxury brand outside the capitals of Paris and Milan.
