Two heads are better than one, especially when they’re sporting the newest in eyewear designs. This is true for the newest capsule collaboration between Amsterdam-based clothing brand Daily Paper and Belgian accessory brand Komono. The two have combined their expertise, releasing a captivating campaign for the innovative eyewear.
This collaboration came on very naturally, through an already existing friendship and mutual interest of each other’s brand. We finally found the right time to create something together, where we could intertwine Komono’s clean aesthetic with our distinctive bold branding.
Abderrahmane Trabsini, Daily Paper Co-Founder
With Beri Dalgali and Dennis Schreuder behind the creative direction, the first component of the collaborative campaign is an eye-catching fashion film, featuring models Ottawa Kwami and Akon Changkou. Techno music plays behind quick clips of dark shapes, sleek edges, and simple silhouettes, each with flashes of bright colors complementing the bold designs of the eyewear. Though not entirely innovative in the style of film, as many brands show off eyewear styles through fast-paced videos showcasing models donning the glasses, what stands out about Daily Paper and Komono’s campaign is how skillfully they’ve blended the aesthetics of the two houses.
The design is derived from one of our most celebrated styles, the Avery. These then got enhanced with a bold Daily Paper logo and a completely new lens shape, making this collaboration into a unique stand-out piece. The strong colorways reflect both Daily Paper’s and Komono’s passion for striking design.
Anton Janssens, Komono Founder and Managing Director
Within the designs of each pair of eyewear, as well as in the video and collection of images that accompany them, the two vastly different brands have come together as one. Each has paid close attention to upholding what makes them unique, while allowing the two to complement each other. Komono’s modern, laid-back style comes through with the simplicity of the entire campaign, as Daily Paper’s striking and eccentric style is immediately apparent through the contrast of bright color against the dark background within the film and images.
The campaign, representing the coming-together of two vastly different styles, is both meaningful and beautiful. It’s always pleasing to see two brands create such a successful capsule collection, and Komono and Daily Paper’s creation does not disappoint. Both houses are fantastic on their own, but together, their future is extremely bright. No wonder they need shades!
