Blue jeans are evergreen. While denim is ubiquitous, we’ve seen two distinct trends take shape this runway season with respect to the timeless textile. The first is deeply saturated, true blue colors, often with high-contrast top stitching. Meanwhile, wide-leg, baggy fits abound, signaling the official end of the skinny-jean era.
Hermès, Charles Jeffrey Loverboy, and more doubled down on all-over true-blue denim for a range of chic reinterpretations of the classic “Canadian tuxedo.” Eenk balanced Americana and avant garde, in one look taking high-waisted jeans to their logical extreme with an intriguing corset-like structure.
On the wide side of things, Hedi Slimane of Celine positioned himself as the master of this season’s wide-leg cool-girl look. Tanya Taylor channeled JNCO with a pair of extremely wide, floor-grazing jeans. Alberta Ferretti embraced the masculine with her workwear-inspired womenswear looks. Mistergentleman laid on the layers. Chris Leba and his house R13 once again flexed their status as the modern masters of luxury grunge.
