Review of Dior Men’s Modern Tailoring Holiday 2020 Ad Campaign by Photographer Brett Lloyd with Arnaud Valois, Jéremie Laheurte, Younes Bendjima, & Kailand Morris
Dior unveils a bespoke new men’s campaign for the Holiday 2020 season. Photographer Brett Lloyd captures the Men’s Modern Tailoring collection with a sense of refined ease.
Dior Men’s creative director Kim Jones conceived of the collection as a dynamic intersection of sophisticated and casual, being able to accompany men in their daily lives no matter the occasion or mood. Consisting of three jackets and three pant styles, all available in three different cloths, the capsule invites combination and reinvention.
Lloyd’s simple black-and-white imagery is built around this idea of combinability. He captures a diverse group of young talents, all friends of the house, in various combinations of the collection’s elegantly tailored pieces. The film sees them dance, walk, or just move expressively, all of which lend more context to the designs and show off their dynamic possibilities. Tom Tom Club’s energetic weirdo bop “Wordy Rappinghood” is a brilliant soundtrack choice. The film concludes as Jones himself, oozing low-key confidence in the collection’s most casual look, takes a victory lap across the screen.
Simple yet effective and striking, the campaign perfectly fulfills its task of showing off the strong design and tailoring work of the collection, and even manages to combine its alluring sophistication with a casual sense of fun.
