Open's First Men's Store in Mexico

The ties between Dior and Mexico have existed since the house’s beginning. As early as 1950, Christian Dior, a culture and travel enthusiast, signed an exclusive contract with the Mexican department store El Palacio de Hierro – located in the heart of Mexico City – later returning to the capital, surrounded by his model-ambassadors, to present his line for the fall-winter 1954 season.

Today, Dior opens a new chapter in its history by inaugurating its first men’s store in Mexico, located in the heart of the Artz Pedregal luxury mall, also based in Mexico City. all horizontal lines, its gray-and-white marble façade captivates. Conceived as a series of refined frames, the windows offer singular perspectives via a play of reliefs showcasing the latest collections of Kim Jones.

Inside the store, visitors are guided through three distinct areas – leather goods, footwear and ready-to-wear – featuring a new architectural concept. Soft and warm, the champagne-colored metallic details reveal the graphic power of the white onyx and alabaster adorning counters and alcoves. An oversized herringbone parquet evokes the cozy charm of a Parisian apartment and combines with the textured whiteness of the walls.

The winter 2019-2020 creations by Kim Jones bloom in this contemporary setting while comfortable blue and beige armchairs and matching rugs recreate the refined atmosphere of an elegant boudoir for presenting footwear. The cannage, an emblematic house code — evoking the Napoleon III-style chairs on which Monsieur Dior seated his guests at his shows —unfolds in delicate punctuations. A bookcase offers moments of diversion and inspiration in between perusing the store’s selection of accessories and jewelry.

Contrasting with gray concrete walls and coffee tables in black marble veined with luminous yellow, the VIP lounge is also decorated in a beige Toile de Jouy canvas, a tribute to Christian Dior’s first boutique, “Colifichets”, which was covered in this print. This signature, reinterpreted in turn by each of the founding couturier’s successors and celebrated by Kim Jones in his collections, further highlights the simultaneously timeless and modern atmosphere of the store.
