Franck Durand

Creative Director

Franck Durand is the founder and creative director of Atelier Franck Durand, a creative design studio specialising in fashion, beauty and lifestyle. The Atelier is responsible for fashion campaigns for the likes of Balmain and Isabel Marant.

Durand recently revived the American travel magazine, Holiday, renowned for its playful graphic design and experimental photography. Durand’s revamp aims to capture the sense of journalistic adventure of its original version that folded 37 years ago. Holiday is published in English, but Durand has commented that “its heart is French”, with the team who conceive, design and produce it based in Paris.

Durand began his career in art direction at the age of 20 working for Marc Ascoli, one of the most influential art directors of his generation. At 29, this working relationship led to a partnership. In 2004, he created Atelier Franck Durand. Under this atelier he has provided art direction for numerous campaigns and worked with major photographers including Inez & Vinoodh, Alasdair McLellan, Karim Sadli and Collier Schorr. He has art directed editorials for i-D and numerous lookbooks for Balmain since Spring/Summer 2013.

He is married to Vogue Paris editor-in-chief Emmanuelle Alt.
