Fur (and Faux-Fur) Coats are Trending for Fall 2021
Furry creatures are stalking the runways of Fall 2021… Today’s top designers are preparing for the chillier months with statement-making fur pieces. We’re seeing the classic long fur coat undergo a renaissance. While still paying homage to its roots, many designers are rethinking the possibilities of the piece in terms of material, functionality, and aesthetic character. The industry continues to pivot away from real fur, and more than half of the pieces gathered here seem to be faux. Working with faux fur gives designers exciting opportunities to experiment with classic looks, as well as keep up with the shifting ethical standards of consumers.
Whether because of its divisiveness, its visible and tactile luxuriousness, or its historically important character, fur always makes a strong statement.
Dolce & Gabbana go maximalist with oversized faux-fur coats in bright colors. Gilberto Calzolari and Bav Tailor introduced smaller sections of fur to tops made of other materials, transforming them into intriguing statement pieces. Givenchy found a unique marriage of refined, furry luxury with edgy streetwear. Blumarine and Khaite evoke Siberian aristocrats with opulent fur accents. Brunello Cucinelli and Alberta Ferretti did the strongest work to bridge classic and contemporary. Prada drew us into an entire world of fur.
