‘Bring on the night!’ is the enthusiastic battle-cry of the latest Givenchy Fall 2018 ad campaign by Givenchy’s Creative Director Clare Waight Keller and Art Director Patrick Li of agency Li, Inc.
The campaign, fittingly entitled Night Noir, is lensed by Steven Meisel who lensed the campaign and directed the video. The black and white images echo Berlin in the mid-Eighties as models Henry Kitcher, Karolin Wolter, Sohyun Jung, Veronika Kunz, and Xu Meen get their clubbing attitude on.
“I wanted to capture the reality of the modern couple in all its diversity: amid a bustling scene or on a crowded dance floor, these urban characters always manage to find each other and flock together in the dark. I loved the idea of capturing a Givenchy romance through Steven Meisel’s masterful cinematic lens.” – Clare Waight Keller
And flock together in the dark they do as the campaign has purpose, showing how Givenchy is a social tribe of artisanal revelers who celebrate all the darkness of night has to offer. Patrick Li’s art direction has a subtle strength to it, pulling in on the characters at just the right proportion while scaling up the most important element, the logo, yet integrating it into the campaign images in a way that doesn’t feel forced.
Which is what this audience is all about, flow and going out. As the 80’s act of The Police said, ‘Bring on the night, I couldn’t stand another hour of daylight.”
