Architecture and fashion collide in Givenchy’s retro Super-8 film feature, shot by Massimiliano Bomba. In honor of Givenchy’s Spring 2019 men and women’s pre-collection, creative director Clare Waight Keller presents a thoughtfully curated feature film with an ambiance embodying a seventies twist of style.
Featured in the film are models Mame Thiame Camara, Sohyun Jung, Veronika Kunz and Marte Mei van Haaster. The film underscores its multi-faceted nature through the presentation of the parallel between the featured collection and architecture, while also highlighting the apparent connection between the underlying aesthetic of Givenchy and its surroundings.
Under the creative direction of Keller, the film further embodies a rather lighthearted juxtaposition between the polished silhouettes of the Pre-collection and the more structured, highly textured backdrop—resulting in a stunning, visually pleasing overall composition.
The underlying nature of the fashion film is one rooted in exhibiting the fundamental relationship between clothes and architecture. The video underscores an apparent parallel between the overwhelming aesthetics of the fashion house and the environment surrounding.
Bomba succeeds in executing the creative ideas of Keller, doing so in a manner that is nostalgic of a previous time in fashion, while accentuating the outward connection between architecture and fashion.
