Hedi Slimane Launches Creative Portrait Project for Celine
On the heels of unveiling a new logo for Celine and weeks ahead of his debut show for the house, Creative Director Hedi Slimane has launched a series of portraits as a new ongoing creative project for Celine.
The designer, who was named artistic director in January, and will reveal his first Celine collection on September 28th, began to assemble a cast for an ever-evolving Instagram campaign in February. The first images in the series feature models Bente Oort and Holden shot by Slimane himself in his signature black and white esthetic. The campaign promises to include a number of up-and-coming artists always in keeping the androgynous aesthetic that Slimane has been known for.
Slimane, as well as Burberry’s Riccardo Tisci, have both been fond of leveraging the directness of Instagram as a direct megaphone both to the industry and consumers alike. Each leveraging localized outdoor billboards as a global digital play filming their out of home activities to share. The strategy plays well for those who have the bandwidth to do so as Celine has 1.4 million followers on their Instagram account.
