Classic Christmas films are hard to come by. With so many holiday movies in existence, it’s surprising that so few films centered on the holiday season are watched every year like A Christmas Story, Home Alone, and Elf. Even Die Hard, which is only set during the holiday season has lived on for all of these years.
Every so often, a new candidate for holiday film favorite emerges, and H&M has a submission for your approval. The fast fashion company created a surreal holiday tale set in a parallel universe, where a young girl must stop Santa Claus’ evil brother from taking over Christmas.
Directed by Johan Renck, the film follows the young girl as her parents Nicki Minaj and Jesse Williams protect her as the Wisest Thingy and the Fastest Fairy, respectively. She takes on Claus’ evil brother, played by John Turturro, and tries to save the holiday from his selfishness. Turturro also takes on the role of the real Santa Claus.
“It’s exciting to see our festive designs come to life together with such inspirational talents,” said Pernilla Wohlfahrt, H&M’s Head of Design and Creative Director. “They definitely added some extra magic to the film and we hope that our customers will love how the fashion is presented throughout the holiday season at H&M.”
Just about anyone can relate to H&M’s holiday film. Much like classic holiday stories, this magical tale comes with the lesson and reminder to be giving and kind to others. This year, the H&M Foundation is following through on the film’s message by giving their holiday donation to UNICEF.
