Los Angeles native son of effortless modernism, John Elliott, has taken the next step in the designers’ rise since unveiling his collection in 2013 by opening his first flagship store in L.A.
The 3,500 square foot Melrose shop plays off of the minimalistic Japanese culture and architecture which can be seen as influences on the way Elliott shapes his collections. With a contemporary edge, comprising of steel frames atop concrete blocks, the designer has layered in ochre hangers adding a dash of color and unity against the soft interior. In keeping with the Japanese tone, the back of the store houses a lush bamboo garden which acts as a backdrop to show off the designer’s sneakers and footwear.
The store plays multiple roles for the designer and his team as coinciding with the opening of the shop, Elliot’s team has moved its corporate offices to the space directly above shop.
For us, opening a store has been an introspective experience and awareness activity. We are intentionally prioritizing the connection to our first store space. Our business is still largely direct-to-consumer, and for us that has been only online thus far. We look forward to really being able to get to know our customers.
