La Perla Unlocks Their 66-Year-Old Archive With ’80S Reimagined Capsule Collection, Featuring Iris Law
The 80’s are back
Luxury Italian intimates brand La Perla unlocks their 66-year-old archive through a new limited-edition capsule collection of lingerie, ready-to-wear and accessories. An evocative celebration of the female form and the decade that championed womanhood, the new capsule draws inspiration from hero pieces from the 1980’s and launched on International Women’s Day, Monday March 8th, 2021.
To mark the launch, La Perla has asked London-based model and actress Iris Law, (daughter of Jude Law and Sadie Frost) and photographer Indigo Lewin to shoot the new capsule collection, taking inspiration from the brand’s vintage 80’s campaigns. The duo will join forces to re-interpret the collection in their own way through a contemporary female lens, with Indigo behind the camera and Iris as her muse modeling the new collection.
Law, featured last Fall in La Perla’s Dreamcatcher collection, (a silk lingerie and nightwear inspired by vintage 70’s simplicity and elegance), is now moving on with La Perla to the next decade.
L’OFFICIEL asked Law how she carries on the legacy of a capsule collection that celebrates a decade that championed womanhood, the ’80s?
I hope to be a positive role model to women. Being a woman is such a beautiful thing and embracing and allowing yourself to feel sexy is also an important part of that. La Perla was founded by a woman and has always been made with the aim of celebrating women and the female form, so I am really happy to be aligning myself with that ethos.
— Iris Law, Model and Actress
With the new collection, La Perla harnesses an era that saw a major rise in underwear trends – a decade of self- expression and experimentation, where the lines between innerwear and outerwear blurred and women embraced the primacy of lingerie and the part it had to play in their own empowerment. Fashion icons from Madonna to Cher, who each wore La Perla for their respective music videos and single covers, were at the forefront of this monumental shift in what it meant to be a woman. The capsule epitomizes a time that exalted the beauty and empowered femininity of a confident, refined and captivating woman.
The pieces that inspired the new collection are as relevant today as they were all those years ago, when first created by Ada Masotti. A revolutionary woman of her time, Masotti pushed the boundaries of the industry status quo, to reinvent the way the world wore and saw lingerie. Masotti was driven by a profound understanding of the female form and passion to empower women through her designs.
As women and their desires evolved over the decades, Ada’s lingerie designs evolved with them. By the eighties, a poignant time for Masotti, she had grown a small atelier in Bologna into a global empire.
Hero pieces range from a V-neck bodysuit in Lycra and Italian Jacquard lace to a form-fitting Italian Jacquard lace corset. The most provocative piece is a full sheer jumpsuit in Italian Jacquard lace and Italian silk satin stretch. Accessories include an 80s inspired headband in Lycra and Italian Jacquard lace, created from fabric off cuts.
Prices range from $135 for a headband to $1,930 for a dress style. Pieces will be available exclusively online at www.laperla.com, in-store at key locations and with selected wholesale partners.
