Review of Louisa Ballou Fall 2021 Ad Campaign by Photographer Marili Andre with model Kerolyn Soares
Louisa Ballou strips down for a new campaign that makes a splash by staying out of the water. The Fall 2021 campaign was captured by photographer Marili Andre.
Andre captures model Kerolyn Soares in a minimalist and gray studio space. Other than a simple metal bench structure and a bit of volcanic sand, which adds some sex-on-the-beach suggestiveness as it clings to bare skin, the space is devoid of set or props. Instead, the focus is entirely on Louisa Baillou’s swimwear, which gracefully follows the contours of the body.
It’s an interesting surprise to see a swimwear focused campaign that doesn’t directly include imagery of swimming pools, beaches, or sunshine. Instead, the photographs put the focus on the pieces themselves and the way they interact with the body. As the pieces obviously have a great deal of consideration for movement, sensuality, and the human form, the move works, and the campaign nails a strong sense of mood despite its abstractness.
