Michael Kors has never been one to shy away from a touch of self indulgence and in his first pairing with photographers Inez and Vinoodh for the Michael Kors Collection fall 2018 ad campaign, the designer has managed to do so with a wink.
The campaign features model Binx Walton continuing the designer’s purposeful association with luxury travel with her set in the interior of a private jet. Nothing new. But what is new is the complete pile on of decadent self gratification as the protagonist has a ‘cheat diet day.’ Pepsi teamed with champaign, Lays potato chips paired with caviar, M&M peanuts to accompany lobster. Couple that with tabloid fodder for reading and one can see where Michael’s humor has finally cracked through the pristine shield of previous campaign outings.
The result is a new direction for the house. An embraceable one with the confidence to laugh at oneself. Do we wish it was evident that she owned the plane, of course. But we appreciate a great wink and are looking forward to seeing how the house adds that casualness to their holiday narrative.
