Sometimes, less is more. This is often the case when it comes to making a statement through color, as the presence of a single color can be quite powerful, outshining others in its consistency, focus, and confidence in being just one thing.
Keenly aware of this chromatic power, the menswear runways of Spring 2022 have been awash in monochrome looks. The suit still reigns supreme in menswear, and the traditionally monochrome look gives designers some exciting opportunities to both lean into tradition and rewrite it.
Dolce & Gabanna brought new dimensions to single colors through a great use of metallic and glittering fabrics. Ermenegildo Zegna’s evolution of menswear, which took the structure out of jackets for a more relaxed and free fit, also relied heavily on monochrome. Etro introduced a subtle color gradient to its monochrome suit looks, drawing an interesting dynamism out of a single shade. Fendi even extends the color to accessories with statement eyewear and bags.
