Casting director Piergiorgio Del Moro grew up in a small beachside village just outside of Rome. It was there that he set out to study International Law but found himself leaving it all behind to pursue an opportunity in Asia as a production assistant. His time working in China and Japan led him to discover the world of casting which ultimately led him to New York City.
“Casting just spoke to me,” says Piergiorgio. “I think it is because I have a good sense of all kinds of beauty, especially non-traditional beauty. I love looking at people, even when I am not working, I sometimes catch myself just staring at people on the street.” Piergiorgio’s admiration of people has translated into the casting direction of runway shows all over the world. He has cast the runways of iconic fashion houses that include Alexander Wang, Dries Van Noten, Dsquared, Fendi, Givenchy, Louis Vuitton Men, Max Mara, Moncler, Moschino, Ralph Lauren, Saint Laurent, Salvatore Ferragamo, Simone Rocha, Tom Ford, Versace and Victoria Beckham. Piergiorgio calls his work his hobby: “I like what I do, so it does not seem like work at all”.
Piergiorgio also casts talents for countless advertising clients. Notably, he has cast the iconic Pirelli calendar for the last three years with notable photographers Peter Lindbergh, Tim Walker and Albert Watson with casts including: Charlotte Rampling, Jessica Chastain, Kate Winselt, Nicole Kidman, Uma Thurman, Zhang Ziyi, RuPaul, Sean “P Diddy” Combs, and Misty Copeland just to name a few. He has collaborated with musicians Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Lana Del Rey, and actors such as Julianne Moore, Brooke Shields, Scarlett Johansson and Juliette Lewis for various fashion brands such as Acne Studios, Lacoste, Fenty, Saint Laurent, etc.
At age 14, Piergiorgio began collecting fashion books; “images of beauty have always inspired me,” he says, “particularly the models of the 80s and 90s.” He now finds himself casting the models that create the characters found within the pages of fashion magazine. Piergiorgio is the Contributing Casting Director for Vogue Italia, Vogue Japan, Self Service, and WSJ Magazine. “I find inspiration everywhere. Imperfections inspire me. The structure of a face inspires me. A clean face without makeup, that is simple yet still glamorous, inspires me.” Every day Piergiorgio creates a world of the right people in the right place at the right time and the result is simply beautiful.
