Spring 2021 Ad Campaign

Review of Pinko Spring 2021 Ad Campaign by Creative Director Riccardo Ruini of Riccardo Ruini Studio & Photographer Federico De Angelis with model Elisabeth Erm

Pinko unveils a new campaign that makes the most of a simple and fun visual concept. The Spring 2021 campaign features creative direction from Riccardo Ruini, with photography by Federico De Angelis.

The imagery takes its starting point as a simple combination of setting and prop, but expands it into a boundless opportunity for fun. On a sun-soaked beach, model Elisabeth Erm dances with a giant, purple inflatable man – the kind you usually see outside of a gas station or mattress store sale (but with two legs!).

The film uses this simple visual conceit to create an infectious atmosphere of fun. Erm and her purple partner get creative with their choreography, which is buoyed up by a bouncing disco beat. Ruini mixes traditional camera angles with some epic drone shots, stretching summer and the sea into a blissful endlessness.

De Angelis’ still photography feels like a playful series of portraits of Erm and her dance partner. He finds an interesting conversation of textures between the billowy vinyl of the inflatable guy, the summertime styling, and the sand and surf.

The campaign is a strong example of how creativity and color can overcome limitations of budget or scope. With their sense of breezy fun, Pinko has us dancing into summer.
