Ports 1961

Fall 2021 Ad Campaign

Review of Ports 1961 Fall 2021 Ad Campaign by Artistic Director + Stylist Karl Templer and Creative Director Margot Populaire of Agency Baron & Baron with Photographer Steven Meisel

Steven Meisel and Karl Templer come together again with a new Fall 2021 campaign for Ports 1961, creating a striking set of images that embody a timeless glamor perfect for the brand’s 60th anniversary.

The Fall collection is characterized by oversized jackets and sweaters with strong shoulders, with a special emphasis on luxurious knitwear. Fabrics and materials are chosen for maximal softness and touchability, creating pieces that wrap the wearer in a warm and protective embrace – and they’re easy on the eyes as well.

But despite the collection’s feeling of warmth and softness, models Achenrin Madit, Alyda Grace, and Lexi Boling aren’t just cuddling up. In Meisel’s striking black-and-white portraiture, they exude strength and poise as they assume power poses, which – in addition to really showing off the collection’s inventive and excellent blocked heels – are full of drama, heroism, and romance.

The campaign thus becomes a portrait of a classic and uplifting heroine, a woman who embraces the moment while looking with confidence at what’s to come – a fitting motif for an important anniversary, as Ports 1961 looks back on its history and forward to its future.
