Escapism and resort go hand-in-hand, often resulting in campaigns that reflect travel and time with family/friends near the beach or some open fireplace. However the house of Prada, creative agency DJA, and photographer Willy Vanderperre have always been more cerebral than literal and this season reflected a dreamscape like setting for Prada’s Resort 2019 campaign.
The campaign is set in an iridescent and refractive world filled with reflection and plastic that is a tad retro while forward at the same time. It is in essence an opalescent fantasy world for those whose ideal holiday escape may well be their own quite place to reflect on the year and look forward to the next one.
The print campaign leverages a fisheye view distorting and elongating the cast as if being seen in a dream. The film is another thing altogether as it begins and end in a real world setting, a parking lot with a metal storage container. The container invite visitors in and transports them to a colorfully imagined world. One could say a form of a resort for some of the Prada patrons.
Overall the campaign accomplishes the goal of standing out in festival of lights that are the holiday season, and puts Prada’s their own spin on resort while providing enough narrative to last the short season. Should the campaign be impactful enough to carve out memory remains to be seen, but The Impression believes it will go the way of dreams, pleasant and faint, but hard to recall the details.
