Raf Simons

Fall 2019 Men's Fashion Show

The Impression Review Score

Raf Simons returns to Paris once again for his Fall/Winter 2019 runway show. Simons took his namesake label to the states to show during NYFW when he led Calvin Klein and returned to Paris last season, but this season feels like a real homecoming for the Belgian fashion designer following his recent resignation from Calvin Klein. The collection was unveiled at an Alexandre de Betak-produced show at the Shangri-La Hotel to a number of guests, including actress Laura Dern, who was “touched” to see she was a focal point for images the FW19 collection.

According to Dern, who described the FW19 collection as “amazing,” director David Lynch “has been an inspiration of Raf’s for some time.” The designer stitched images of the actress panicking on the phone and in terror from the 1986 David Lynch film Blue Velvet to oversized outerwear and knitwear pieces. The show was split into two parts with a mood altering intermission. The first portion featured exaggerated overcoats, parks and trench coats in neutral tones and pin embellishments, and the second portion featured similar looks in vibrant pink, indigo and orange hues. Simons made the rounds for his final bow and hugged Dern before exiting. It feels good to be home.

· Other notable guests include musician Frank Ocean, Rick Owens, Michele Lamy and Valentino’s Pierpaolo Piccioli

· Long length coats were paired with turtlenecks under dress shirts and layered headwear.

· Silk scarves tied around the neck and waist ties created uniformity
