You never forget your first love and first heartbreak, but what about your first muse? Saint Laurent turned to one of the its earliest muses, Betty Catroux, to front its Fall 2018 campaign, which unveiled this week and serves as proof that there’s a special place in your heart for your muses as well.
Though the former 6’0 model started her career with Chanel, it was with YSL where magic was made. Catroux was a longtime friend of Yves Saint Laurent and had been described as the “twin sister” of the fashion icon, as well as his “female incarnation,” according to Suzy Menkes. Also, the famed Le Smoking tuxedo debuted on Catroux. Maybe loves and muses are one in the same?
Catroux felt the opposite of love about modeling, but she stepped in front of the lens once again for the latest campaign of her longtime friend’s Fashion House. The black-and-white images, which were shot by David Sims, features Catroux in black, rock star chic outfits and sunglasses. She dons a coat and suiting jacket in a similar sparkling pattern, as well as a black leather jacket that appears in House’s short video supported by Venus in Furs by The Velvet Underground.
Saint Laurent took a great approach for its Fall 2018 campaign, combining the House’s past and present to give a glimpse of the near future under Anthony Vaccarello.
