Saint Laurent had audiences marveling at the spectacle that was its Fall 2018 fashion show set in the heart of Paris, France. The glistening lights, coming from someplace other than the Eiffel Tower, which was just steps away, demanded the attention of fashion personalities, tourists, and mere bystanders alike.
The set was an enormous, temporary, indoor space lined with hundreds of rock concert-like lights shining down on models as they walked across an infinite, wooden floor. Externally, the space was covered with metal scaffolding and a multitude of spotlights that illuminated the night sky.
Nevertheless, Anthony Vaccarello’s designs proved to be a match for the momentous backdrop of the Eiffel Tower. He revealed his inspiration was drawn from “the Russian collection of Monsieur Saint Laurent, but with more of a Parisian direction.” With this, Vaccarello created looks with the perfect balance of glam rock.
Models strutted down the runway in black gowns with parading and innovative necklines, 80s style metallic dresses with sizeable shoulders, dreamy blouses paired with leathers, and shimmering jackets. Believing that “legs are not something you have to hide,” Vaccarello had models show off their sculpted ones in short-shorts and cropped jeans.
The Eiffel Tower provided attendees with one last glimpse of gleaming beauty as they walked out of the show.
