Saint Laurent Spring 2019 Men’s Fashion Show Staging

For Saint Laurent’s Men’s Spring 2019 collection Creative Director Anthony Vaccarello took the show on the road to New York City to help put the ‘Big’ back into the ‘Apple.’ No small feat when your most recent collections featured the Eiffel Tower as a backdrop.

Enter ‘Big Thinker’ and long time Saint Laurent collaborator, show producer Alexandre de Betak. Recognizing the value of an experience, coupled with an iconic skyline at night, the two creatives reminded us why we fell in love with the city that never sleeps in the first place.

Guest were shuttled by a 15 minute boat to Liberty State Park to a grandiose steel piped layered truss scaffolding stadium. And that number of adjectives didn’t do the set justice as beyond the genius of the structure was the wisdom of building ‘a room with a view.’ As models took to the catwalk in 70s’ inspired rock/glam looks the city skyline glittered as a welcome beacon to all the dreamers, screamers, and sceners that are drawn to Liberty’s embrace.

Sometimes it takes an international perspective to remind us of the meaning of that tall green Lady of Liberty and the sonnet at her base by Emma Lazarus, “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.”

Fitting that Lady Liberty was also a gift from the French.
