Serena Williams stars in the brand’s new global campaign, which highlights women as pillars of hope and optimism for their communities
Stuart Weitzman has enlisted tennis trailblazer Serena Williamsas its new global spokesperson. The icon, social change leader, and mother stars in the new houses Spring 2020 Campaign lensed by Ethan James Green.
Inspired by Serena’s resilience and courage to overcome obstacles throughout her career, the campaign features her on a platform, standing tall in silhouettes designed to lift you up. Coupled with the confident energy Serena emanates, the campaign reinforces the notion that women possess the innate strength to be symbols of hope for their communities — a message that is especially relevant right now.
Now, more than ever is a moment to focus on hope and moving forward. I want women of every generation to be inspired to do so, one step at a time.
– Serena Williams
The 2020 campaign is part of Stuart Weitzman’s ongoing philanthropic partnership with Vital Voices Global Partnership, an international nonprofit dedicated to investing in women leaders who drive global change. Together with Serena Williams, Stuart Weitzman has selected two women leaders — and their organizations focused on lifting up women of color — who have stepped up to support vulnerable communities in the midst of COVID-19. These leaders are Sage Ke’alohilani Quiamno, co-founder of Future For Us — a platform dedicated to advancing women of color at work — and Ashlee Wisdom, founder of Health In Her HUE, a platform that connects Black women to the healthcare providers, services and resources that are committed to their health and well-being.
Vital Voices searches the world for women leaders with daring vision for change, then partners with them to make that vision a reality. For more than 20 years, Vital Voices has amplified and invested in more than 18,000 women leaders from 182 countries and territories. The organization provides these women with capacity building, skills training, grants, mentoring, visibility, guidance and access to a network of their peers to accelerate that change on a global scale.
The campaign set evokes the ‘winners podium’ depicted in the awarding of sporting excellence. The juxtaposition of heels versus tennis shoes on the platform is a powerful concept and one the house can play off of further down the road. Overall the art direction and campaign are a winner for the house as the concept elevates both the talent and the brand.
