Todd Snyder 2017 CFDA Menswear Nominee
BY KENNETH RICHARD
With a panache of American, a dose of humility, and the swagger of a calm small town sheriff, designer Todd Snyder has charted an individual course to earn designer accolades and a 2017 CFDA Menswear Nomination. Other nominees include Raf Simons for Calvin Klein, Tim Coppens, Thom Browne, and Robert Geller.
Arriving in New York fresh after graduating from Iowa State University, the designer found himself champion menswear at Ralph Lauren, the Gap and J. Crew, where he became Senior VP for Menswear in 2004. Since striking out on his own in 2011, Snyder has found himself embraced by the industry due to his skillful designer eye and understanding of men’s sportswear blended with quality and tailoring. After launching a store in Japan with Asian partner, Anglobal Ltd. in 2015 and closing that same year by being acquired by American Eagle, the designer launched one of the most exciting points of retail to come along in New York City in years in 2016.
We asked the designer (along with fellow nominees) how he heard of his nomination.
